PSA: Speak Up When You’re Down

Video Production Project Overview

In 2014, The Los Angeles County Perinatal Mental Health Task Force asked Ezra Productions to make a public service announcement (PSA) that would encourage emotionally vulnerable, low-income perinatal women to reach out and talk to a professional if they need support. It was important to keep a welcoming and warm tone throughout the video in order to make sure that the viewer felt comfortable enough to contact a professional.

Using watercolor animation reinforced the compassionate tone and evoked an emotional response from viewers. We worked with renowned songwriter Deborah Pardes to sync the rhythm of the beautifully written song with the animation.

Project Deliverable

Two 1-minute PSA videos, one in English and one in Spanish,to be displayed on the client’s website and YouTube channel, and to be used nationally by other organizations by swapping out the ending card.

Company Overview

The mission of the Los Angeles County Perinatal Mental Health Task Force (now “Maternal Mental Health NOW”) is to remove barriers to the prevention, screening, and treatment of prenatal and postpartum depression in Los Angeles County. Maternal Mental Health NOW is a project of 501(c)3 fiscal sponsor Community Partners.

As a nonprofit organization, finances are really tight! Yet we were able to produce two gorgeous PSAs thanks to Ezra Productions. Jillian got to know our organization and our work, then her extremely talented artists worked with us to produce an animated short video. She also worked seamlessly with the songwriter to incorporate the music we wanted in the video. On top of that, she is professional, responsive and courteous – a true pleasure to work with!
