Most business owners and marketing directors know that video is the single best way to convert clicks into sales, donations and brand loyalty, when produced and marketed correctly. But most don’t know what to look for when searching for the company or person that’s going to create that winning video for them.

Here are our top five tips and attributes to look for when searching for a video production company.

Stop searching for a videographer and start searching for a production company that specializes in marketing!

A videographer typically only shoots video. A good production company will help you come up with the idea for your video, pull all of the necessary players and equipment together to make your shoot go smoothly, and will edit your video to perfection. A video production that specializes in marketing and communication videos will be prepared to produce videos that will really convert viewers of those videos into buyers and believers.

Look for a company with a good attitude.

You want to make sure that the people you’re going to be working with are positive, upbeat, creative, and a pleasure to interact with. You don’t want to work with people who are going to belittle you, give you that look of “How dare you question my artistic vision?” or tell you your idea isn’t possible because they’re actually just lazy. If you can’t get a sense of the people from the company’s website, pick up the phone and give them a call!

Find a group of intelligent people.

Make sure the director you’ll be working with is smart and understands how your business works, or at least finds out about your business and your goals for the video during the pre-production process. Make sure the director has good grammar, so they can stop you when you say things that make no sense on camera. Because you will. We promise.

Make sure your director can double as an acting coach while having a good understanding of your business.

When the smartest people in the world get in front of a camera, their brains have a tendency to suddenly melt. People are so (understandably) worried about how they are going to appear and be perceived that they will say things that literally make no sense, or have very little to do with their business or practice area. A good director can coach people out of their shells and if they totally freeze up, can guide them in the right direction.

Hire a company that is going to go the extra mile.

Hire a production company that is truly invested in the success of your business and is excited about your project, because that excitement will translate into higher quality work.
